Tourism in Egerkingen? Does that make sense?

We meet Dagmar and Michael, a couple from Lower Saxony (DE), over morning coffee in the Chrüzgärtli at Gasthof Kreuz Egerkingen. The weather is still not very summery these days. However, the sun is shining at times and encourages our guests to plan an excursion for today. They are inspired by the new adventure map from Olten Region Tourism and the bike map from Canton Solothurn Tourism

For them as EU citizens, physical maps and guides are important orientation aids on the road, as EU roaming does not take Switzerland into account and they therefore cannot always fall back on Google & Co, Michael explains. Christian Wyler, President of Egerkingen Tourism, points out that the major Swiss communication providers offer tourists special vacation offers in the form of temporary SIM card subscriptions for such cases and that their communication materials explicitly refer to these services.

The couple go on to tell us that this is the second time they have spent a week's summer vacation here at Gasthof Kreuz. Of course, it is not Egerkingen's tourist attractions that are the reason, but rather its central location in the Mittelland, which enables the couple to explore a radius of 80 to 100 km of the surrounding area every day on the e-bikes provided free of charge by Egerkingen Tourism. So far, they have mostly traveled between Biel and Aarau, visited various museums and sights, gone swimming at nearby bodies of water such as the Aare, Lake Sempach or Lake Burgäschi, hiked and e-biked frequently along the southern foot of the Jura between Grenchen and Olten and far into the Thal Nature Park. "The regions in the canton of Solothurn and the Mittelland offer many opportunities beyond the highway and industrial zones, if you have the eye for it," says Dagmar. Michael explains that the CHF 40 for the freeway vignette for a week's vacation was hardly worth it to their liking and that they got to know many beautiful areas thanks to the drive on main and secondary roads. "We'll be back next year too. Yes, a vacation in Egerkingen - it makes perfect sense!"
